Blanket Square

So, in Rich's family, when someone is having a baby, all the women in the family get a 12 by 12 square of fabric and sew something onto it and then put them all together to make a big blanket. Well, recently one of Rich's cousins had a baby and I got to have a blanket square since I'm part of the family now! I was so excited and I wasn't sure what to do at first and then I decided to cut out a whale and sew it on. It seemed like a great idea and then I went to sew it and my sewing machine was having some weird needle issues (they kept breaking...must have been a bad batch). I really didn't feel like messing up my only square so I thought that I would just sew it by hand. I completely underestimated how long that would take...and how imperfect it would look, but oh well. I finally finished it just the other day and sent it off to another cousin so that it could start getting put together. I don't know what anyone else put on their squares (except Katie...I'm sure I know what's on hers :) ) but I'm sure they all look wonderful. I can't wait to see the finished product. I thought that I would give you a little sneak preview tough so here's what my square looks like!

Nice job Ally! You know, hand stitched is more personal anyway. :)
