Pie Time!

Last night Rich came home from work and informed me that he lost at CatchPhrase at work and had to bring something for everyone to eat the next day. He decided that he wanted to bring an apple pie so this morning I had a mission. I wanted to make the best looking and tasting apple pie they ever had...I have no idea if it actually worked out that way but I sure put a lot of time into this pie today. I thought that it would be pretty easy because I've made pies before and then I noticed that we had no pastry blender. It was okay though because I just used a fork and my hands and it worked out pretty good. Then it came time to roll out the crust and well...we have no rolling pin. Luckily I used my noggen and used this tall bottle of balsalmic vinegar and wrapped it in some plastic wrap. I rolled out the crust filled the pie plate with apple goodies and then made a little lattice top for it. It seems that every time you double the recipe you still don't have enough for the top crust. That's ok because a lattice top is quick. Then because I had a little bit left over and I didn't want to throw it away (and I wanted to cover up a couple little mistakes) I wanted to make little shapes to put on top. I realized we have no cookie cutters so I made a little star and then cut them out in the crust... After baking the pie it looks and smells delicious. I hope everyone at his work loves it.

And of course I had to take a picture of my amazing pie :)

Check out that golden brown touch on all the edges.

From Mamo

And your Poppa would also be very....very proud of you and he would be pleased as punch that you took after your Poppa, then your Mom and you are carrying on the Whittle/Heise/Lammers tradition!!!
Good girl - I'll bet those people at Rich's work never thought they would get a "home made pie"....It is almost becoming a thing in the past to make desserts from "scratch" as Poppa would say!!
I know Rich was proud of you and your abilities as "Susie Homemaker". Ha! Love you honey, Mamo
